Workshops

Alison and a number of artists involved in this project are running in-person workshops in schools and community groups across the country encouraging children to get creative.

We have partnered with The Michael Aldrich Foundation to run a workshop and educational programme in schools and community settings designed to build confidence, curiosity, creativity, emotional wellbeing and resilience in children and young adults and help them to express how they feel through a love of art and making.

Creating art is a vital process and component of a child’s education. It places the child at the centre of individual expression and unlike any other curriculum area, the arts are rooted in freeing the child from an expected answer and thus removing the fear of ‘not knowing’ which then acts as a major contributor to the child’s mental health, enthusiasm for learning and wellbeing.

To register your school or community group’s interest to take part in the education programme please contact us here with the subject line ‘Workshop’

What are the workshops all about?

The education programme is based on the “Joy of Not Knowing” (JONK) philosophy of education created by educational consultant Marcelo Staricoff and reflects the JONK principles which are:

  • It is impossible to be wrong; there are never any right or wrong answer

  • It is a values led approach in which every persons thoughts, comments and contributions are valued equally.

  • JONK states that in order to learn something new, we must not know it first, making every person enthusiastic to want to know and to want to find things out.

  • Finding things out is seen as the beginning of lots more questions.

  • Every person is an expert of learning and of thinking creatively, critically and philosophically

  • Every person is a lifelong learner; resilient, creative, curious, strategically aware, independent and resourceful.
